What is Cubewild?
Cubewild is a block-building survival game that runs in your browser with nothing to install. It is Classroom Connect's own edition of Mineclonia, a free and open-source game made by a community of volunteers, running on the open-source Luanti engine. We host every file on this site ourselves, so the game is not embedded from somewhere else, and there are no ads inside it. If you have played Minecraft, Cubewild will feel familiar straight away, although it is a separate game and is not connected to Mojang or Microsoft.
Survival or Creative
Pick a mode on the start screen. Survival is the full game: you start with nothing, punch a tree for wood, turn it into planks and sticks, and work your way up from wooden tools to stone, iron and beyond. You have health and hunger to look after, monsters come out at night and in dark caves, and the deeper you dig the better the ores get. There are farms to plant, animals to breed, furnaces, chests, beds, redstone machines and a Nether to find.
Creative takes all of that away and leaves you free to build. Every block is in your inventory, nothing can hurt you, and you can fly by double-tapping Space. It is the mode to pick if you want to build a castle, a city or a giant statue without spending an hour mining for the materials first.
Controls
Click the game to capture the mouse, then use W, A, S and D to walk and the mouse to look around. Space jumps, Shift sneaks so you do not fall off edges, and holding R makes you sprint. Left click digs blocks and attacks, right click places blocks and uses things like doors, chests and crafting tables. Press E to open your inventory and the 2x2 crafting grid, and use the number keys 1 to 9 or the scroll wheel to pick from your hotbar. Esc pauses the game and releases the mouse.
Your worlds save in your browser
Survival and Creative each keep their own world, and both are saved inside your browser on this device, so you can close the tab and carry on later. Clearing your browsing data for this site will delete them, and they will not follow you to a different computer. The first time you play, the game downloads about 40 MB. After that it starts much faster because the files are kept too.
Which devices can play it?
Cubewild needs an up-to-date Chrome or Edge on a Windows PC, Mac or Chromebook, plus a keyboard and mouse. It does not run on iPads, phones or Safari yet. If the game cannot start inside this page, it shows a button to open it in its own tab instead. On older Chromebooks, close other tabs before playing so the game has enough memory.
Tips for your first night
Daylight goes quickly, so start gathering straight away. Punch three or four trees for logs, open your inventory with E and turn logs into planks, then make a crafting table and a wooden pickaxe. Use the pickaxe on stone to get cobblestone for better tools and a furnace. Before dark, dig into a hillside or build a small hut and close the door behind you. Coal ore is easy to spot in exposed stone, and coal plus a stick makes torches, which stop monsters appearing nearby.
Credits and licences
Cubewild would not exist without the people behind Mineclonia and Luanti. Mineclonia is released under the GNU GPL version 3 or later, and its textures are based on the Pixel Perfection resource packs by XSSheep and Nova Wostra under Creative Commons BY-SA 4.0. The Luanti engine is released under the GNU LGPL, and the browser version is built on the luanti-wasm project by paradust7. Full credits, licence texts and links to the source code are on the game's start screen.
